A break from blogging

I'm off the air for the next two weeks to go on a tour of the Balkans. I hope to be back in the saddle towards the end of August. Many thanks to all regular readers for their continued support.

Sheesh, hope you're back before end of August- "she who must be obeyed" has decreed we're off to Croatia and Bosnia (not much arm-twisting was required to be honest;)).
We'll be looking for recommendations!!

I've just got back in the last few days and still recovering from the experience - and I mean that in a good way! Would recommend Sarajevo, not a particularly pretty place, but a real mix of cultures, East meets West, historical baggage - under seige for three years, the place where the First world war started, buildings pockmarked with bulletholes, just like Belfast it has a rough charm about it, etc. There's also an excellent steakhouse there.

There are many islands off the Croatian coast - could have quite happily spent several weeks there!

The journeys between Dubrovnik and Split and from Sarajevo to Mostar are worth it for the scenery alone. I particularly liked Split and Diocletian's Palace.

I could go on and on...If there's anything else you want to know, just drop me an e-mail.

Thanks for that. My partner was been to both Sarajevo and Mostar pre-war and also a couple of years ago on a conference, both places fascinate me, how such thriving and multi-cultural cities can basically fall apart in the space of a few short months.

Split will be our base (flghts costing a tenner!) so we'll obviously also be looking at a few of islands round there.
Can't wait!!
