So English soccer fans are in up in arms at the possibility of another foreign manager in charge of the national side. That's funny, I always thought the Who guitarist Pete Townshend was English.
Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce was quoted in the Guardian as saying "You have to ask would an Englishman get the Brazilian job." Well If Michael Caine can get the Italian job, I don't see why not.
Apparently Felipe "Big Phil" Scolari was unavailable for comment.
If Townshend takes the job I wonder if he'll bring on many "Substitutes".
On the other hand if Scolari takes the job things could get interesting. He certainly has a successful track record in international football, having guided Brazil to the World Cup title and Portugal to the final of Euro 2004. The purists insist that he's not suited to the English way of thinking, but the man certainly knows how to manage a team. Although he's certainly a colourful character, one thing for sure is that as a dedicated happily married family man he won't be generating the same lurid tabloid headlines that appeared when Sven(gali) was around. Headlines like "Big Phil gets his big fill of Brazilian supermodel in hotel romp" are unlikely to come up, but such is the unpredictable nature of the modern game, you never can tell...

I notice, CW, that your blog entry is dated 26 April 2007. Are you from the future? If so, who's going to win the World Cup?
and more importantly - what are next weeks lottery numbers??
Ciaran,
I'm clearly off-topic here, but I wish to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind comment in my post about my cat Romeo.
Remember, you're alway welcome!
Antonio
P.S.: Please, next time leave your name because you've been signed as anonymous and I know it's been you only because I checked the stats :-)
You're welcome Antonio. I didn't actually post a comment, but I was sorry to hear about Romeo.
For Mister Townshend... football management is at least a safer pursuit than some of his internet research.
Antonio - it was actually me, not Ciaran who commented about your cat!!
